Course Overview & Course Objectives

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Business Systems) examines both the organisational and technological issues that are needed for the analysis and design of business information systems with a strong emphasis on electronic commerce. The course provides a state-of-the-art program that considers modern principles and theories of computing together with the practical applications of technology. The Bachelor of Business Information Systems aims to provide students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and values to be effective in modern business environments.

On completion of this course you should be able to:

  • understand the different types of information technology tools and their applications;
  • manage the impact of technology in organisations;
  • understand the role of technology in managing knowledge and information;
  • critically evaluate currently existing technology systems and new developments;
  • become familiar with the latest developments in information technology;
  • understand the organisational settings in which information systems are used;
  • recognise the threats and opportunities of technology in business;
  • show an awareness of ethics and social implications of their interest area; and
  • understand the role of modern information systems in society and business

Students from the Bachelor of Information Technology (Business Systems) will be well prepared for careers as: information systems developer, system analyst managers, system designers, information manager, electronic commerce managers, database administrators, consultants, and company managers.

Course Structure

The course consists of 24 units and is 3 years full-time.

The core of the program consists of 16 Business and Information Technology units. Five business electives complete the program. Business units provide the business practice framework for information systems development and the information technology units provide you with the knowledge and technical skills required.
